Tax Law Mentor

In the early 1970s, John Monson recognized the need for an organized practice group of tax law practitioners and founded the Tax Section of the New Hampshire Bar. Through his bold leadership, the group quickly grew, and eventually became a major influencer on tax legislation in New Hampshire, advising the General Court on technical matters associated with important proposed tax bills. As one of the leading tax practitioners in New Hampshire, John has been called upon to serve as corporate counsel for national, publicly owned, and Vermont and New Hampshire companies. During the 1990s, he was primarily responsible for a number of mergers and acquisitions undertaken by one of Vermont’s larger corporations. John’s expertise extends to trust and estate matters as well, and he is a member of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, a preeminent group of select trust and estate lawyers. Today, John continues to provide counsel in tax matters, business succession planning, and complex family trusts or probate issues. John works with companies in a wide range of industries, including high tech, manufacturing, distribution, and professional associations such as medical practices.
