The City of Portsmouth, NH is a waterfront town, located on the banks of the Piscataqua River, just before it reaches the Atlantic Ocean. Portsmouth has been an active and important trade port since the town was incorporated in 1653. It held an important place in the Revolutionary War, as British fleets were eager to capture the busy seaport town.
